Yessir Whatever is vintage Quasimoto (Madlib), collecting inspiration from the past 12 odd years to compile what certainly feels like a retrospective. We mean that in the most positive ways, as every track reminds listeners of why you love Madlib in the first place; he's baked, intelligent, and hilarious. All 12 of the tracks are worth having despite having come across versions or snippets of them on past releases, as the kaleidescopic mix Madlib is known for comes together in what is probably best described as a sonic cartoon. While showing his brilliance, Quasi also shows how he's like the rest of us; at least slightly lazy. "Broad Factor", "Seasons Change", and "The Front" take you straight into Quasimoto's world with the effective mix of quirk, a beat that hits undeniably, and the nasal delivery that you could never mistake. Between laying down the law with his counterparts, explaining his intentions, and doing so through the haze of greenery, it's exactly what you'd expect from this multi-talented alias. When it comes down to it, Madlib picks the best breaks and bass lines, bottom line. "Youngblood" and "Astronaut" approximate interludes and succeed, and "Planned Attack" harkens yet seps forward... "when I plan my attack I doubt that you're ready." Whether Madlib or Quasimoto, Otis Jackson Jr. certainly knows what's good. Yessir Whatever is available in digital, CD, an vinyl formats, so you can have your druthers. For anyone with an eye towards collectible vinyl, this one includes a sticker that reveals Quasi's insides. (You'd be well-served by stockpiling a copy, that's for sure!)
