Oh No - Dr. No's Ethiopium

Posted by Evan La Ruffa on 26th Dec 2009

Stones Throw just can't stop putting out incredible music, and that's more than fine by me. With Madlib due to release a slate of stuff, and everyone else at the label hard at work, it's difficult to keep up with the sheer quality that is, Stones Throw Records.
This post however, is all about Madlib's lil' bro, Oh No. Dude has his own palette, yet clearly comes from the same broad range of music history that informs The Beat Konducta's work. Dr. No's Ethiopium, is a beat-laden journey through every opium den that you could imagine, with each beat demanding the, "damn this track is fire" type of reaction. Here's what Stones Throw have to say about it:
"Oh No created Ethiopium with help from Egon's record collection, inspired-by and sampled-from rare 60s and 70s Ethiopian funk, jazz, folk, soul and psychedelic rock. It is the followup to his 2007 album Dr. No's Oxperiment, the Turkish and Lebanese-inspired instrumental beat album."
