My first encounter with Erik Jones' artwork produced that exclamatory, mouth agape moment, where you're blown away by what you see. That's exactly the spark that makes creative things so incredible; they suspend time, if only momentarily, in favor of color and creativity. We lose ourselves. And after looking at Erik's portfolio, its clear he loses himself in the work as well. How couldn't he? Each painting or print depicting the blissful confluence between movement, the human form, and rich colors.
Born in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1982 and currently residing in Brooklyn, Erik's paintings feel like futuristic characters who have somehow collaborated fused with nature, with rich, vibrant colors servings as headdresses and helmets. Included in the work is an allure, a femininity that is unhindered, uncompromised, and beautiful. As molecules rotate and spin, Erik interweaves various levels of consciousness within one presentation, opening the viewers eyes to a world in which computers, humanity, and nature vibe seamlessly.
This work is continues to give with each successive viewing... so stay a while.
