Andrew Riggins is a 25 year old Austin-based collage artist who makes some eye catching stuff. The juxtaposition factor involved in good collage work, is a type of aesthetic that pits source against source, calling into question the relationship between these culled images. It also open's up to a litany of questions to be asked about why and where those sources were found, selected, and adapted. As in, where the hell did he get that image? Playboy? National geographic? The contrast and interrupted flow of disparate images positioned and given context by images from other realms, is the power of this revisionist art. Creating brand new worlds, and exhibiting all the characteristics of a surrealist approach to logic are both aspects of Andrew's work. Environments composed of everything from overlapping to oppositional images, are in themselves, a dialectic for dissecting the common narrative. And in the end, isn't that what art is all about? Austin, keeping it weird. Check out Andrew Riggins conglomerate world -> AndrewRiggins.com
